February 2025 Newsletter

Welcome to the February edition of our newsletter. We’ve seen a great start to 2025, with our membership nearly doubling during January, and some new activities starting.  See the full rundown here: https://www.facebook.com/reel/29441664612099359

The Lenton Centre was incorporated on 5 April 2005 and bought the building from the City Council soon after, so we’ve got a lot to celebrate this year with 20 years of hard work by local people running this great community facility. We are excited to be planning a 20th Anniversary Event on Sunday 13 April, with free swims and Easter-themed activities, so save the date and join us for these landmark celebrations.

It was due to the hard work of a group of volunteers that the building was saved, and although we’ve been fortunate to be able to employ a few paid staff over the years, volunteer involvement is still key to our survival and ethos.  See below for ways in which you can get involved as part of the TLC family. 👪💞

Volunteering

As a charity, it’s always hard to balance keeping our prices affordable with making enough money to pay our costs. One thing that can help us greatly to keep our costs down is volunteering, either on a regular basis in a range of roles or by giving your services for free as we need them.

A big TLC Thank You goes out to Pete from HSC Group who serviced our fire extinguishers last week – he does this every year for free!

We are currently in need of:

  • A brickie to repair one of our perimeter walls;
  • Painting – both inside and outside;
  • A chippie to repair some rotten wood;
  • A small plastering job;
  • Laying carpet tiles;
  • ….and much more – just tell us your skills and we’ll find you a job!

Regular volunteer roles include:

  • Reception/ Admin Assistants
  • Cleaning/ Centre Attendant Work
  • Project Support Workers and Organisers
  • Café Assistants
  • Gardeners
  • Youth Workers
  • Trustees
  • Event Organiser – get stuck in with the community!

We’ll look after you with drinks and snacks and help you feel part of our team.
